About Us

The Child Health and Human Development (CHHD) Program is one of 8 scientific programs at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC). The CHHD Program is led by Dr. Kolja Eppert (Program Leader) and Dr. Isabelle Gagnon (Program Co-Leader).

The CHHD Program encompasses four pillars. These four research themes help create many internal collaborations and result in strong translational and transdisciplinary child health-focused research:

  • Human Reproduction and Development

  • Molecular and Cellular Determinants of Child Health

  • Health Outcomes in Childhood Disease

  • Neuropsychological and Vision Health

The members of the CHHD program all hold appointments at McGill University, mostly within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. They are further affiliated with various departments, such as Pediatrics, Human Genetics, Experimental Medicine, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. In our ranks, we count 125 regular and associate investigators, alongside more than 315 trainees and staff.

Early life events and factors have proven to have the potential to dictate lifelong human health. It is very important to better understand these factors in order to develop novel detection methods and therapies.

Our members are involved in various fields of study surrounding conception, fertility, reproduction, development, birth, pediatric diseases, and following these diseases into adolescence and early adulthood.
